In simple English, Enuresis translates to involuntary bed wetting in children. Enuresis term is used specifically when this condition occurs in bed during sleep. Sometimes this also can be called as Nocturnal enuresis. Enuresis is an involuntary discharge of urine.
The causes are many including urinary tract infection, food allergies, obstructive sleep, Apnea, chronic constipation, small bladder, ADHD, stress etc. It can also occur due to emotional factors. In kids certain un-known fears, problem of adjustment in school atmosphere, insecurity, etc play a role of bed wetting. This condition can be seen in some adults also. Enuresis could be a serious condition and consulting a Physician is always important.
Remedies that can be followed?
Educate the child to hold the urine for a long time during day hours.
Do not get angry with a child for bed wetting problems.
One teaspoonful of pure honey should be given to a child before the child goes to bed.
Oily and spicy foods should be restricted at dinner time.
If Enuresis occurs with neurological problems, then with the consultation of a Doctor, one can try St. Johns’ wort herb.
Stress is one of the causes of Enuresis; hence parents should try to find out the reasons of stress and anxiety in the child and help the child to overcome the stress. To overcome this stress or emotional problems, one can even give herbs like Bacopa monnieri and Convolvulus pluricaulis. This should be done only with the consultation of a Medical Doctor.
Sometimes fear makes a child not to go to the Bathroom. So try to understand the problem and see if that can be fixed.
Pumpkin seeds are useful to help with bed wetting condition.
Giving Cranberry juice one hour before a child goes to bed should help with Enuresis.
Give child, Cinnamon bark to chew, once a day. One has to make sure that the child does not choke on this bark. Do not leave the child alone if one were to try this remedy.
Do not give any oral liquids after evening hours.
Avoid chocolates, tea, coffee, potatoes after evening hours.
The herb, Corn silk, is useful to treat Enuresis. Again, one needs to check with a Doctor before trying this remedy.
Evening walk is advisable.
